MAC and Iris Apfel Collection...and Rodarte...and Dame Edna...

No, this isn't a review and there will not be one. Let me tell you why. When I first read that MAC was coming out with a collection inspired by her, I raised an eyebrow because I vaguely remembered a lovely quote she said just recently. Here it goes

"Now when I walk down Fifth Avenue in the summertime I just want to throw up. It seems that the fatter and uglier people are, the fewer clothes they wear. The shorts and flip-flops and tight jeans on butts that go from here to Poughkeepsie … I always say they should put people in jail for wearing clothes like that. Especially stretch jeans over size 10 [a UK size 14] – they should be outlawed. Ten years ago people were starting to look like slobs in New York, now it’s an epidemic.”

Huh, oh really now? People who are size 10's are ugly, fat slobs? Cool story, bro. While she is entitled to her opinion, the name calling was unncessary and extremely rude and I will not excuse her comments simply because she's old. A size 10 will look different on almost every woman, depending on height, or body shape and as a so called "fashionista" she should know this. Last time I looked, stretch jeans look amazing on curvier bodies, and that is a fact! LOL. If she thinks a size 10 is sloppy, well i don't want to know what she thinks of a size 16 or even a size 20. Oh, and i've seen many a size 2, 4, 6, and 8  girls look sloppy and ugly in little shorts, flip flops, and stretch jeans so her argument fails on every.single.level.

MAC has really been doing some questionable collections these past few years. Rodarte or Dame Edna anyone? If you don't remember the Rodarte collection mess, click here for a google search that will tell you everything you need to know, and then some. While the Dame Edna collection went off without much issue, she too was on the list of people I side eye because of this insensitive comment,

"Forget Spanish. There's nothing in that language worth reading except Don Quixote, and a quick listen to the CD of Man of La Mancha will take care of that. There was a poet named Garcia Lorca, but I'd leave him on the intellectual back burner, if I were you. As for everyone's speaking it, what twaddle! Who speaks it that you are really desperate to talk to? The help? Your leaf blower? Study French or German, where there are at least a few books worth reading, or, if you're American, try English." (in response to a Vanity Fair column she was answering)

Some said her comments were not to be taken so seriously, but it was in extremely poor taste and even though I'm not hispanic, I'm offended. I'm so tired of people telling me and others who are done with the "funny" race, sexuality or gender jokes to "get over it" cause I will not and I never will. Just because you're a comedian doesn't excuse your shitty, prejudiced comments, word to Tracey Morgan and his unfunny self.

I'm at the point I am pretty much done with MAC, after Rodarte I sold or gave away about 80% of the MAC I had and this is pushing me to rid myself of the rest. But I will be honest, it will break my heart to get rid of my favorite lippies and my Woodwinked. But the makeup world is constantly growing and I'm quite sure I can replace it with little effort. I wish more people would start holding these companies accountable for the people they align themselves with, but I lost hope for that after Rodarte where many girls said they'd still buy it because its so pretty and that we were all overreacting...sigh. Take Care :)

Urban Decay Naked Palette 2: it has been confirmed

Finally all the rumors can be put to rest! I couldn't locate any expected launch date so unless they're planning to unveil it within the next week, I don't think this is something that will be sitting under your tree this Christmas. Maybe for Valentine's Day...

Foxy, Half Baked, Bootycall, Chopper, Tease, Snakebite, Suspect, Pistol, Verve, YDK, Busted, Blackout

It looks like a warmer version of the old palette, which is GREAT news for me (and many others) but it also looks like even more shimmer :( I would have loved to see a matte neutral palette...Urban Decay's stellar pigmentation + matte finishes+ everyday staple colors?! I wish...

So is it something you all might be looking forward to?

Day 20: My Favorite Neutral and Gold Eyeshadows (part 1)

Hey, I thought a series of my favorite shades would be a nice addition to the whole 30 day challenge thing. I'll do it in groups neutrals/golds/browns, blues, greens, purples, and misc (like pinks, oranges, duochromes). Since i'm a total gold and brown fanatic, i'll start with my favorites in that color group :) Oh and this is only going to be part 1, cause like I said, i'm a gold/brown fanatic so this part here are MAC and NARS. The next part 2 will be more random brands and drugstore ones.

Top to Bottom: (All MAC) Soba, All that Glitters, Texture, Amber Lights, Woodwinked, Goldmine.

- Soba: A light golden brown with subtle golden shimmer. Its my all over lid color, my highlight, my crease/blending color...basically its my go to color for almost everything, and its a perfect flesh tone eyeshadow for me.

- All That Glitters: pinky champagne with with golden shimmer. I love this color as a lighter lid shade, sometimes i just blend it out with soba, put some black liner and mascara on and go. It wakes my eyes right up.

- Texture: Reddish medium brown with shimmer. I don't know why I didn't buy this one sooner, its gorgeous. It has now become my best friend color instead of Saddle. Very pigmented, but it does have alot of fall out when you put brush to shadow, I often have to knock some off.

- Amber Lights: Bright golden brown with shimmer. While this isn't my favorite gold color, it is still wonderful to have. Its a bit too metallic and glittery for me to use during the day but it makes for an awesome golden smokey eye.

- Woodwinked: Warm metallic bronze. My favorite shade, hands down. I wear it almost everyday and even though its a metallic bronze, its actually quite subtle. Feels amazing, pigmented, and blends easily.

- Goldmine: Gold with shimmer. Your standard gold eyeshadow but its very flattering on almost all skin tones. It is a bit more sheer than I like, but it builds easily to a nice gold.

Top to Bottom: (All NARS) Etrusque, Fez, India Song, Bengali, Galapagos, Coconut Grove

Etrusque: Yellow golden with shimmer. This is a really nice warm gold shade, and would look great with greens. It's pigmented (like most NARS is) and goes on super smooth.

Fez: Warm brown bronze with subtle shimmer. If you are looking for staple neutrals from NARS, Fez is a shadow you need to look at. It's a single shadow so you won't be stuck with another color you don't like. It's a bit more hard than the other shadows but its still pigmented.

India Song: A deep brown with subtle shimmer. This is part of a duo, the other half is a light matte ivory shade. Its a nice deep shade, leans a little bit more cool but its a nice crease color.

Bengali: A medium deep matte brown. A must have neutral, the color and the texture is the best i've encountered. Its a very rich deep brown, not too light or too dark and its undertones are more neutral.

Galapagos: A deep espresso brown with gold glitter. Now this one when applied, doesn't always show the gold glitter, you have to use a patting or use circular motions to get it to show up, so you do get an option. It's a warmer shade that I use everyday to deepen my crease or just as an all over shade for a daytime smokey eye.

Coconut Grove: Blackened matte dark brown. Once again, an amazing texture and color. It's more multi-use for me, I put this in my brows when I want a more defined brow, and also as a deep brown liner.

Day 16: Finding flattering clothes for a larger bust

After the finding the right bra post, a few asked if I knew of what types of clothes best flatter a larger chest. so I pulled together some tips (both from books and my own personal experience) on dressing a bigger bust line : )

GENERAL:

1. Be mindful of which trends suit your body type. Dolman sleeves, cut off boxy tees, high waisted pants...all no no's. I love dolman sleeves because they're so friggin comfy but they look super huge on me because the baggiest part of the shirt, is at the chest area, making me look even bigger. High waisted pants is a no-brainer as they do nothing but bring the eye upward to the chest. So even though they're popular, still realize not all trends are made for every person....except a wrap dress ;)

2. Too long necklaces can draw attention right to the breast area, especially if you're wearing a v neck top.

SHIRTS/TOPS

1. Don't buy oversized tops. I know its tempting to buy looser fitting clothing just so it A. fits you or B. doesn't cling too tightly to the bust area. But this really serves as a disadvantage because it makes us look bigger than we are and it actually draws more attention to your chest than you realize.

2. V neck tops and Scoop neck tees are your best friends! They don't emphasize your cleavage unless you're wearing a push up bra (which thankfully doesn't come in our size) or the top is really really really low. What these shirts do is bring the eyes upward and making your neck reigon look longer. I have tons of v neck shirts and sweaters for a reason, they always work.

3. No turtlenecks or boatneck shirts. Even though it is more coverage and fabric, its drawing the eye and emphasizing the bust area. It appears to be one big solid mass which makes you look big.

4. Don't tuck your shirt in. This one was a hard one to break for me, I love tucking my button ups in my work pants with a nice slim belt, BUT it did nothing but make me look top heavy. When the shirt is untucked it elongates the torso and waist reigon, making you look thinner, taller and takes all the attention off your breasts. At times I can make it work if I wear heels and pants with a slight bootcut rather than my straight leg pants.

5. No thick knits. Too much fabic can create bulk, try a lighter wool or cashmere for sweaters.

6. Try not to wear loud or printed tops, it draws attention right to your top half. If you want bold, try a bright skirt, slacks or shoes and accessorize.

7. Find a Tailor. Yep, a tailor. Especially for button up shirts, which every single woman should have at least 3 of. No button up shirts will fit us correctly, its either too tight at the bust and fits perfectly in the waist, Or its just right at the bust and baggy everywhere else. First off, buy a shirt that does fit the chest area since its much easier to take in, than let out. Then find a good tailor, do some reasearch or simply ask around. Once you get those shirts tailored to fit your body perfectly, you'll look so much better in them....and you won't have to worry about a button flying off from the chest reigon if you rotate your body (personal experience...)

8. No spaghetti straps. Nuff said.

JACKETS

1. Double breasted coats are not your friend. That broke my heart to write because I love a nice double breasted wool pea coat, but it just doesn't look that great on me. The buttons often don't close at all or if they do they look like they're pulling apart, not to mention it makes me look wide. Much like the dilemma with the button up shirts, it only fits one area at a time.

2. Pick a single breasted jacket. I lucked up and found one last year from Kenneth Cole that goes in slightly in the waist area, giving me a much needed defined waist. And also, if it comes with a belt, ditch it.

DRESSES/SKIRTS

1. Find a wrap dress. Besides the fact that they're unbelievably forgiving, they are comfortable, stylish, appropriate, and always classic looking. I love that you can buy them in every texture, length, color, and price range. A true stape in a woman's wardrobe.

2. Try to avoid sleeveless dresses, not saying that you can't wear them because honestly I do wear them. But I also lift a ton of weights so my arms are more defined, and it doesn't look too top heavy if I go sleeveless. Just be mindful when you try them on, it can vary depending on the type of dress but if you look much wider and bigger in the chest area when you're wearing it, go for a different style dress.

3. If you want to wear a pencil skirt, make sure its not too high. There will be some folks who say nothing slim down below, but it depends on how slim and short it is. Those bandage skirts which happen to be very short are just not good ideas, especially if you're paired something bigger up top with it, you look extremely top heavy. Try to buy one that goes to the knees and then if you must wear something baggier uptop, get it tailored to fit a little closer to the body. My pencil skirts stop right about my lower waist area and go to the knees, which is most flattering for me. But of course, you will be different so just try various lengths to see which ones work best for you.

4. A line dresses are always good picks. They flare out right below the waist but don't poof out too much so that we look like wide hourglasses, these types of dresses are flattering for almost any body shape.

PANTS

1. Be careful with Jean legging and legging stuff, because you can easily look unshapely and stuffed. Often times people wear looser long tunics with leggings and with larger breasts, honestly its just not that flattering. Its just so large up top and so thin down below, its almost like we can look like a chalice cup...espcially if you don't have a defined waist. Sometimes If i do wear skinny pants/leggings out and about, then i pair it with something fitted up top and I wear boots down below so my body doesn't look like an upside down triangle. If I wear skinny jeans, I actually buy them a size bigger and wear them slightly baggier, which works because I wear them with my sneakers.

2. High waisted pants/Sailor pants aren't flattering. Unless you happen to have a longer torso and are taller, then its easier to pull off. If you're short and larger chested, lets leave this trend to someone else ok?

3. Wide leg and Boot cut pants/jeans look great because they balance out the top half. But wide leg pants pants often times can drown out a shorter person, so if you're shorter try Straight leg pants. They are awesome and I'm so happy they're back in style!

There we have it, hopefully I didn't offend anyone along the way because I know people can get quite touchy when it comes to their personal style. But of course in the end, do you :)

I haven't done one of these in a while so why not get back to them right? This is such a gorgeous summer look thats fun and fairly toned down. Not to mention easy to replicate.

Eyes: After applying a primer to the lids, go all over with any skin colored eyeshadow that is either matte or one with very low shimmer. That color is going to vary depending on your skin color but for me personally, that shade is MAC Soba. A lighter brown shade with low shimmer. It seems as if she's got a deeper brown shade in the crease to crease some definition, so now apply a dark matter brown shade in the crease. If you'd like add a little black eyeliner to the top lid to crease a bit of thickness at the lash line. The waterline is this really bright teal color, I would use Milani's liquif'eye metallic eye pencil in Aqua and set it with MAC's Teal pigment. Go ahead and apply a couple of coats of mascara and if you'd like, false lashes of your choosing.

Face: For those bright cheeks, I see NARS Taj Mahal being the choice here. It adds such a lovely glow to darker skin and during the summer months is a total staple blush. Foundation wise, I would reccomend going with a tinted moisturzer, preferably one with spf in it. I use Mary Kay tinted moisturzer, also Smashbox has one that is really great as well.

Lips: A deep hot pink gloss looks great and not to mention is very easy to maintain during hot summer days. Make Up For Ever Lab Shine in D6 or Victoria's Secret Brilliant Lip shine in Torrid are great options.

See how easy this was. Makeup should never be complicated! I love looks like this for the summer, in fact, I think i'll do this as a tutorial :)

Day 7: Bras for Bigger Boobs

Freya Lyla Balcony Underwire Bra

$66.00 by Freya at Bare Necessities

I know I usually talk about beauty but I do know a little about fashion :) And one of the things I actually like talking about and sharing information on, is boobs! Yes boobs, those lovely sacks of fat hanging from our bodies. Now not all boobs are created equally, some of us were blessed with an abundance of them. Like myself. Finding bras that go past the DDD range is extremely difficult, thus a great deal of us are really wearing the wrong size. I was strutting around squeezing myself into DD Victoria Secret bras, wondering why none of them were really fitting me well. All the "fitters" at Vickies kept putting me in a 36 DD and still not getting the cup to cover my tits. Frustrated, I walked over to Nordstroms and got fitted, I ended up being a 32 G....yes G. The letter G. G as in Gigantic. For the first time since the 10th grade, I had a bra that fit! Like really really fit, it lifted and supported the girls, and I looked damn good in my clothes. Here are some tips I used along the way to help find my perfect bra.

1. Get Fitted. Cannot stress this enough, please get fitted by a professional. Not those girls in Victorias Secret who size you over your clothing, they're wrong, very very very wrong. Get to your local boutique or a Nordstroms, and get fitted. You will be standing there boobs out but ya know, they see tons of boobs everyday so its okay, don't feel weird. Also, do not have a mental breakdown when you hear your REAL size. I hear and see too many women crying, complaining, or beating themselves up when they hear how big they are. Don't worry, really, focus less on the size of the bra and more on how it fits, you may instantly feel better about your appearance once you have a bra that truly fits you.

2. Be Prepared for Sticker Shock. Bigger bras are expensive, very expensive. My first bra was a Chantelle bra that ran $80 and a Fantasie bra that was $60. It hurt but they are investment pieces, much like a staple wool coat or black trousers. But a great fitting bra makes your clothing look so much better. No more quad boob or excessive back fat. Suddenly, the girls are sittin high and pretty waiting for that prefect V-Neck sweater to be put on. Plus, the detail put into these bras is great, they're made specifically for your breasts so its worth it.

3. Begin the bargain shop. Everyone loves a deal right? After finding out what size I was, I went to the internet and started doing a little bit of research. I found some sites that had a much bigger selection of bras than my local Nordstroms did and so I began to shop online for my bras. Often times you will find really good deals on them, my favorite site is figleaves.com, I also buy my swimsuits from them as well since they have bikinis and tankinis with larger breast support. Also, Nordstroms rack will also have some of those really expensive bras for dirt cheap. Just a few weeks ago I found two $80 bras for less than $20 combined. Other great sites: biggerbras.com, bareessentials.com, herroom.com, bravissimo.com

4. Start your "collection." Yes, collection, cause once you find the bra that fits you, you will want more. And that isn't a bad thing, we aren't supposed to be wearing the same bra every single day, give yourself a few days between so you don't stretch it out and wear it down quickly. I have two sports bras, 4 tshirt bras and a ton of sexy bras. I dunno why I have more sexy bras, but when you're always looking at black, beige and brown bras that have 4 hooks and seem like something your grandma wears, you want to toss on a nice black (red, purple, green...) lace bra ya know? So now that there are some starter tips to find the right bra, the next step is finding the right clothing to suit your larger bust but more on that in another post ;) Down below however are some of my favorite bras to pick from, ranging from sexy to everyday to strapless to convertible (for those racerback and halter shirts).

Day 5: Review: Wet N Wild Color Icon Trios for Summer 2011

I initially was a little excited about these new trios, I happen to find wet n wilds new eyeshadows to be a really great value. But unfortunately these new ones were not so great. For starters, there are some repeats of the colors or colors that are just very similar to ones already out. It feels like they've taken the path of MAC, just slapping a new name on something even though its been done before. And then, I found that these shadows were lacking the pigmentation I have found in other palettes from Wet N Wild, most of these were chalky and a bit difficult to work with.

More After This

Day 4: My Favorite Mascaras

Here it is, my favorite mascaras. But to be honest, this list changes often.

1. Buxom Lash Mascara: I found this one on accident in one of those mascara sample kits from Sephora. The wand is truly unique, its in the shape of an hourglass making it really easy for the brush to line up with your lash line. It's formulation goes on super smooth and evenly, never once have I had it clump up on me, even after 2 coats. It gives amazing length but no volume for the lashes. My lashes don't feel brittle or break off easily, they're soft to the touch and when its time to take it off, it glides off without any resistance. Love it.

2. Make Up For Ever Smoky Lash Mascara: When I first tried this one I hated it so much. It was very wet and often got my lashes clumped up in one swipe. I'm not a fan of the brush which is the problem, the bristles are so short and close together, it makes for a complete mess if you're not careful. But I gave it a second chance, and for some reason, I loved it. I just go a little more slowly and wiggle the brush gently while applying the mascara, then I use a small metal comb to separate the lashes. It is super dark, perfect for a smoky eye look.

3. NARS Larger than Life Voluminzing Mascara: This is my everyday, subtle lashes mascara. It doesn't really give too much extra volume nor does it give any length. I just toss this one when I go run errands, it doesn't run down my face if i'm working out at the gym and it doesn't flake off in my lashes during the day. It has a hourglass brush like the Buxom one but its much smaller and a bit thicker, really easy to get my lower lashes.

4. Revlon Grow Luscious Mascara: This one right here replaced my HG mascara, Benefit Bad Gal Lash. The brush looks just the same, and the mascara feels exactly the same. Basically, its a dead dupe. And the big plus, its like $10 cheaper! It gives insane volume, my lashes look nice and thick when I apply this mascara and with the tapered tip, makes it easy to get into my inner eye area. And yes, your lashes do feel really good when using this product.

5. Maybelline the Falsies mascara: I like Maybelline mascaras, my all time favorite is Full N Soft (until they changed something....it just isn't the same anymore) but this one makes my lashes long and thick and jet black in one swipe. It has those little fibers that wrap themselves around your lashes, making them look bigger than they really are. And it works. But the downside is that, throughout the day, those little fibers fall off into your eyes and on your cheeks. Its very frustrating that I only get like 3 hours of wear time before this happens. But its a cool mascara nonetheless.

Day 2: 30 Questions about me and makeup

1 When did you start putting on makeup?

-I started painting my nails when I was about 5, it was something my grandmother and I did together. I hit 17 and started wearing mascara and colorful eyeliner, then stopped at 18. And finally, when I turned 23, I began using eyeshadows and eyeliner, then only like a year or so ago i embraced foundation, concealer and blush.

2 How did you learn to put on makeup?

When I was younger, it was all trial and error, there was no youtube. I would read magazines and makeup books, then recreate the looks. Youtube makeup videos didn't come around till I was at least 22 and even then, I could only find one or two black women doing makeup, which is why I started.

3 Favorite Brand.

- NARS with Make Up For Ever being a close second.

4 Do you like wearing foundation? If so, what’s your color and favorite.

-I actually do not like wearing foundation and I don't usually wear any. But when I do, I pick NARS Sheer Glow and my shade is Tahoe.

5 Favorite lipstick, lip gloss and lip liner.

- My favorite lipstick is MAC's Up The Amp, lipgloss is hard because some are limited and once i'm out, i'm out....Mimmy and Live & Dye lipglass from MAC are my LE favorites, but NARS Orgasm is my permanent favorite, and lipliner is NYX Ever.

6 Do you like/wear false lashes? If yes, strip or individual

-I do not like wearing false lashes, but if i do they're strip lashes.

7 Favorite eye shadow color.

-That is hard....really hard. But I would have to say MAC's Woodwinked since it was the first to pop in my mind.

8 What’s your favorite daytime look?

-A little tinted moisturizer, MUFE's aqua cream in 12 or 14, with a coat of mascara, NARS multiple in Portofino on my cheeks with some lip balm. It's quick and easy as well as appropriate for all occassions.

9 Picture of your makeup collection.

- Too many pictures to upload.

10 Favorite makeup brush.

-NARS Yachiyo brush

11 Do you like wearing bronzer?

-Why yes I do, I wear NARS Casino bronzer.

12 Favorite mascara.

-Right now it is MUFE Smoky Lash

13 Where do you keep your makeup?

-In my room on my desk or inside of a 4 tiered drawer next to my desk.

14 Favorite Youtube guru(s).

-lilpumkinpie05, lisaeldridgedotcom, lipsh0ck, thefacyfaced, pixiwoo

15 Do you wear blush?

-Yes, I love blush even when I'm wearing nothing else. It just always adds a nice colorful glow to my cheeks.

16 Do you copy any of the celebrity’s makeup?

- not really, i find most celebrity makeup to be kinda boring. I love looking at editorial and fashion makeup, and copying those looks (but they never make it to video...)

17 Favorite makeup artist.

- Pat McGrath and Francois Nars. It's a tie.

18 What’s your favorite night time look?

- Something colorful! Usually I go for blues or greens at night, with a coral cheek and neutral lip. I normally forgo the lipstick or something that needs constant touching up because I'll be too busy to pay attention to my fading lipstick.

19 Favorite concealer.

-Bobbi Brown creamy concealer, I wear Golden.

20 Favorite eyeshadow primer.

- NARS Smudge Proof base.

21 Where do you buy your makeup at?

- Nordstroms or Sephora, Target, and drugstores.

22 Favorite toner.

- I don't use a toner unless I'm doing a mask, but I use Lush's Eau Roma Water, it has no alcohol in it.

23 Favorite eye shadow palette and blush palette.

- the NARS 9947 Palette is my favorite eyeshadow palette and I don't have any blush palettes.

24 Which do you like: cream, matte, powder, sheer, or shimmer eye shadows?

- I prefer matte shadows or shadows with very low shimmer in them.

25 Favorite eyeliner.

- Cream: MUFE Aqua Cream in Black, Pencil: Milani Liquif'eye in black or teal

26 Do you wear makeup everyday?

- No I don't.

27 Favorite powder.

- Don't wear one.

28 Favorite makeup remover.

- Mary Kay Eye Makeup Remover.

29 Do you like wearing liquid liner? (if so, what’s your favorite)

- I hate liquid liner lol, its always a pain because of my hooded lids. I usually ends up someone on my eyelid...

30 Picture of yourself with and without wearing makeup.

-Can't find one now, but most of my videos have me at some point without makeup on.
